Correct fitting of laminated connections

Laminated connections are a means of isolating low voltage equipment from the vibrations inherent in transformers.

  • Ensure any raw copper surfaces which are to be part of the joint, are cleaned of any oxide layer and coated with a petroleum jelly.
This ensures good conductivity and contact face.
  • Loosely assemble as shown in the diagram.Correct assembly is with the clamp plates to the outside of the laminated connections; do not fit clamp plates between busbars and laminated connections.
  • M8 fittings are to be used.
These will however seem loose in the holes provided, this is intentional as it provides some degree of movement and slack.
Observe the correct use of spring and flat washers.
  • A warning triangleAfter assembly is it of paramount importance to ensure at least 25mm, phase to phase clearance (This includes clearance between fixings ).
  • After aligning all laminated connections, all fittings should be torqued to a minimum of 20Nm and a maximum of 25Nm.
